Os_module

In Node.js, the os module is a core module that provides various utility functions related to the operating system. It allows you to access information about the computer's operating system, network interfaces, and perform other OS-related operations. Here are some common functionalities provided by the os module:

  1. Operating System Information: The os module provides methods to retrieve information about the underlying operating system.

    const os = require('os');

    console.log(os.platform()); // Returns the platform (e.g., 'win32', 'darwin', 'linux')
    console.log(os.arch()); // Returns the CPU architecture (e.g., 'x64', 'arm')
    console.log(os.hostname()); // Returns the hostname of the operating system
    console.log(os.release()); // Returns the release version of the operating system
    console.log(os.type()); // Returns the operating system name (e.g., 'Windows_NT', 'Darwin', 'Linux')
  2. System Uptime: The os.uptime() method returns the number of seconds the system has been running.

    const os = require('os');

    console.log(os.uptime()); // Returns the system uptime in seconds
  3. Memory Information: The os module allows you to access information about system memory.

    const os = require('os');

    console.log(os.totalmem()); // Returns the total system memory in bytes
    console.log(os.freemem()); // Returns the amount of free system memory in bytes
  4. Network Interfaces: You can retrieve network interface information using the os.networkInterfaces() method.

    const os = require('os');

    const interfaces = os.networkInterfaces();
    console.log(interfaces);

    The networkInterfaces() method returns an object that provides information about the available network interfaces on the system, including IP addresses, MAC addresses, and more.

  5. Endianness: The os.endianness() method returns the endianness of the CPU. It can be either 'BE' (big endian) or 'LE' (little endian).

    const os = require('os');

    console.log(os.endianness()); // Returns either 'BE' or 'LE'

These are just a few examples of the functionalities provided by the os module in Node.js. The os module offers more methods and properties to interact with the operating system, allowing you to gather information and perform OS-related operations within your Node.js applications.
